Trust in You
This is one of my favorite songs. The lyrics have been an important part of my faith journey while dealing with infertility. The chorus is especially meaningful. I pray that this song will bring you peace and comfort in the middle of your storms.
When You don't move the mountains
I'm needing You to move
When You don't part the waters
I wish I could walk through
When You don't give the answers
As I cry out to You
I will trust, I will trust, I will trust in You
When You don't move the mountains
I'm needing You to move
When You don't part the waters
I wish I could walk through
When You don't give the answers
As I cry out to You
I will trust, I will trust, I will trust in You
Wade in the Water
Rev. Dr. Luke A. Powery writes about the importance of African spirituals for finding hope in the midst of despair. "Wade in the Water" references the Israelites' exodus out of Egypt. For those of us who feel trapped and burdened by troubles, this spiritual can encourage us, helping us sense hope. God's gonna trouble the water. This version, performed by Sweet Honey in the Rock, is one of my favorites.
It Is Well with my Soul
This well-known hymn was written by Horatio Spafford in 1876. He wrote the lyrics after several tragedies that occurred in his life - the death of his son, the loss of his financial stability due to the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, and the death of his four daughters after the ship they on which they were sailing capsized on the Atlantic Ocean and sank. This a capella version is performed by the BYU Vocal Point.
Thy Will Be Done
Hillary Scott wrote this song after dealing with the grief from suffering a miscarriage. In an interview, Hillary mentioned that this type of grief isn't often talked about. She said, “I also feel like there’s this pressure that you’re just supposed to be able to snap your fingers and continue to walk through life like it never happened.” She also stated that writing this song came from the most raw place she's ever written.
